Bute Park, Cardiff's rather nice park in the city centre bordering the River Taff on one side and Cathays Park on the other is home to some unique and rooted artwork.
These pieces of art are large wood carvings carved from tree stumps throughout the park. Many of them remaining where the tree once stood, roots still in the ground holding the carving upright. Most of the pieces are carved using chainsaws. Chainsaw carving is practiced in many parts of the world.
If you visit Bute Park here is some of the art you can look for/at.
The artist of this piece had a large canvas to work with and chose to leave some parts of the tree trunk in its original form.
Here a some details of the above piece -
A Fox and Pups.
An Owl with Wings Spread.
An Abstract and Wavy Wood Sculpture in Bute Park
A salmon enshrined in wood. This piece has taken on a nice weathering.
