Dorset Fun

West Bay, Dorset
West Bay on the Dorset Coast

Looking for a place with nice weather and fun outdoor activities?

You would do well in choosing Dorset as a destination to meet such requirements.

The county of Dorset, home to the resort towns of Bournemouth, Lyme Regis, Poole, Swanage, and Weymouth provides ample opportunity for enjoyable outdoor activities.

The beauty of Dorset has not gone unnoticed, almost half(%44) of the county is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dorset in fact has the highest proportion of it's land designated as conservation areas of all English counties. A World Heritage Site, two Heritage Coasts, Sites of Special Scientific Interest and the South West Coast Path are also found in Dorset.

A sampling of popular and enjoyable activities to be found in Dorset include camping, walking, swimming, and boating around the Durdle Door.

Also, a visit to the chalk rock formations known as Old Harry Rocks either by land or by sea.

Another place equally enjoyable from both the sea and the land is Golden Cap. As the highest point on the South England coast, a hike to the top of Golden Cap affords very nice views in all directions. While observing Golden Cap from lower elevation or from the sea is made enjoyable for the reason the peak has the name "Golden Cap," the golden-colored sandstone at the top of the hill that produces a nice gold colored shine.
